Shane McCallister
With a degree in photography from of the Minnesota College of Art and Design, Shane manipulates Photoshop software to obtain surreal results. Shane’s first work consisted of populating various commonplace scenes with multiple images of Charlie McCarthy, often for comic effect. His “Charlie” series was recently acquired by the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art and was displayed in the recent Lure of the Local exhibit at the Museum. Shane has further refined his creative use of Photoshop in recent work. For his “Mandala” series, Shane paints or draws spontaneous abstract images, photographs them, and then reconfigures these images in Photoshop in a sort of “spin art” way. The result are beautiful, contemplative mandalas or enclosed circle designs that represent the universe and are meant to have an inner harmonious impact on the viewer.
